U18 B Team Cup – Joint National Champions Crowned

Everton Free School and Hampton School crowned champions in the 2019/20 U18 B Team National Cup Competition

The English Schools’ FA has declared Everton Free School (Liverpool SFA) and Hampton School (Richmond SFA) joint champions of the ESFA Under 18 Schools’ Cup for B Teams for Season 2019-2020.

The decision has been taken after Covid-19 prematurely ended the season and it was established that it would not be feasible to host the National Final after the school summer holiday.

Everton Free School and Football College made it through 5 matches to reach the final, recording a 1-0 win at home to local rivals Blue Coat School (Liverpool) in Round Two; a 5-1 home victory against Manchester Grammar School; a closely contested 2-1 away win at Rainhill High School; a difficult trip to Rotherham to defeat Maltby Academy 4-2 and a semi-final victory at home to Commonweal School from Swindon which included a dramatic extra time winner.

Hampton School enjoyed a free scoring run to the final.   Like Everton Free School, they were allocated a bye in round one of the competition and subsequently registered an emphatic 11-1 win away at Glenthorne School (Sutton) in Round Two.   Hampton continued their goalscoring form in Round Three with a 9-0 home win against Chobham Academy from Newham and followed that match up with a 3-0 away win against a strong Bradfield College (Newbury) team.   The goals continued to flow for the Richmond based school in Fifth Round with a commanding 5-0 win against RSA Academy from Sandwell, before earning a place in the final following their Semi-Final match against Harris City Academy (Crystal Palace).

Darren Alcock, ESFA National Competitions Manage said “Players and staff at Everton Free School and Hampton School have worked incredibly hard to reach this English Schools’ FA Cup Final.   It isn’t necessarily the way in which we envisaged bringing the competitions to a conclusion, but under the circumstances, we are very pleased to have reached a resolution which recognises the effort, skill and determination of those involved with both teams.   To be crowned a National Champion is an extremely prestigious honour, so we hope that the players, staff and school communities will enjoy this accolade. We wish the players well in their future football endeavours.”

Phil Oliver, Everton Free School & Football College Team Manager said “The competition has been an excellent experience for our students playing some prestigious schools.   We had three very competitive away games and an unforgettable semi-final on route to the final. The goal for next year would be to defend our title.   Although this is a bitter sweet moment, everyone at Everton Football College is extremely proud of our Jericho students to be crowned joint winners of such a prestigious competition.   I am sure that we will be celebrating this achievement with the group as soon as it is safe to do so.”

David Burke, Director of Football at Hampton School said “To see three Hampton football teams named as joint winners of their respective 2020 English Schools’ FA Cup competitions is a phenomenal achievement and our teams’ success will be celebrated by all in the Hampton community. We would also like to congratulate Everton Free School, Brooke House College and Sandbach High School, on being named joint winners in the U18B, U16 and U16B tournaments. The English Schools’ FA Cup competitions showcase the best of English schools’ football and we are thrilled that Hampton footballers continue to perform well in these national competitions. We are delighted that the boys at the senior end of the school have been rewarded for all their commitment and hard work throughout their years at Hampton and would like to thank everyone who has been involved. We will display the trophies with pride.”
