In Partnership with the ESFA
The PlayStation Schools’ Cup is an exciting grassroots football partnership between PlayStation and the English Schools’ Football Association (ESFA). The tournaments are open to girls and boys throughout England within the U12, U13, U14 and U15 age categories.
Over 2,000 schools and 100,000 children will now benefit from the PlayStation Schools’ Cup programme. Every school involved is issued with a PlayStation Schools’ Cup match day football and has the full support of both the ESFA and PlayStation Schools’ Cup throughout the season.
The PlayStation Schools’ Cup doesn’t just benefit the leading young footballers in the country – the competition is open to children of all abilities with ‘standard’, ‘elite’, `B team’ and `Small School Trophy’ tournaments also an integral part of PlayStation’s support of grassroots football. National Cup knockout rounds take place from September and run until around March. The PlayStation Schools’ Cup National finals will be held across a three day footballing extravaganza in May 2018. You can view all the highlights and the best bits of both season-ending events on the PlayStation Schools’ Cup YouTube channel here.
Last season also saw the introduction of National Schools’ Football Week, a national initiative that encouraged schools and children across England to participate in additional footballing activity. The week also saw brothers Ryan and Steven Sessegnon return to their former school, where they had become PlayStation Schools’ Cup champions in recent years, before becoming professional players – helping to inspire future generations of schools’ footballers.
Premier League player ambassadors
Since the launch of the PlayStation Schools’ Cup in 2013, a number of leading professional footballers have supported the competition. The majority of these players have visited schools as part of the Tie of the Round roadshows, with others attending the season-ending PlayStation Schools’ Cup Festival.
“Since our partnership with the ESFA started back in 2013, we have continued to increase the number of boys and girls taking part in the PlayStation Schools’ Cup. We’re working hard to provide both fun and competitive formats, so kids can enjoy representing their schools in high-profile football tournaments. We are equally proud of the impact our work with leading footballers is having on the stars of the future as we help to keep raising the profile of schools’ football.”
