U12 PlayStation F.C. Schools’ Cup – Joint National Champions Crowned

St Francis Xavier’s College and The Toynbee School crowned National Champions in the 2019/20 U12 PlayStation F.C. Schools’ Cup competition.

The English Schools’ FA has declared St Francis Xavier’s College (Liverpool) and The Toynbee School (Eastleigh & Winchester) joint champions of the U12 PlayStation F.C. Schools’ Cup for Season 2019-2020.

The decision has been taken after Covid-19 prematurely ended the season and it was established that it would not be feasible for these teams to participate in this year’s National Final match.

Darren Alcock, ESFA National Competitions Manager said “Players and staff at St Francis Xavier’s College and The Toynbee School have worked incredibly hard to reach this English Schools’ FA Cup Final.  We are very pleased to have reached a resolution for this final which recognises the effort, skill and determination of those involved with both teams.  To be crowned a National Champion is an extremely prestigious honour, so we hope that the players, staff and school communities will enjoy this accolade and we wish the players well in their future football endeavours.” 

Colin French, Head of PE at Toynbee School said “We are extremely proud of these students. They had made the final of the Eastleigh and Winchester Cup and the Hampshire Cup as well as the National Cup Final. Frustratingly, all three finals have been cancelled.  

For a school that removed football from key stage three lessons, our results in fixtures at district and county level have not been affected. This is the most notable achievement in the national cup since our girls’ team won the U14 competition in 2006.”

Association of Muslim Schools’ hosts Finals Tournament- Report

Harborough Town FC hosted the annual Association of Muslim Schools’ (AMS) finals day on Wednesday 11th March 2020. Muslim schools from across the country participated in a girls’ tournament in the morning, followed by the boys’ in the afternoon.  

Referees, supplied by Leicestershire FA, presided over the girls’ teams during a competitive “round robin” league stage, which saw reigning champions Irqa Academy from Peterborough top the group with Madani Girls School from Leicester as runners up qualifying for the final.  

In windy conditions, Iqra emerged victorious with a hard fought 2-0 victory to retain the trophy. 

During the presentations, Andy Weston, ESFA Development Manager thanked the girls for their commitment and enthusiasm and praised the quality of football that the girls are playing, even though some of them are relatively new to the sport.  

The boys’ tournament was highly competitive, but goals were at a premium with Madani Boys school from Leicester and Eternal Light school from Bradford reaching the final. The final saw Madani make most of the running with Eternal Lights goal leading a charmed life and with some resolute defending the game went to penalties.  

With the score at 2-1 in the penalty shoot out, Eternal Lights goalkeeper produced a stunning save to win the trophy and become the AMS champions for the first time.
