Throwback Thursday – The glory of Rep Football

With the announcement of the new ESFA Champions Cup competitions, we’re going on our travels with ESFA photographer, Garry Griffiths (353 Photography), to relive the first ever Cup Final they covered back in 2015

Looking forward to the new Champions Cup competition, we ‘Throwback Thursday’ to our first ever cup final appointment for the ESFA – a hugely entertaining Boys Under 18 Inter County Final back in March 2015.

Holders Kent were looking to cling onto their crown with Humberside, the challengers, at the wonderful Abbey Stadium – home of Cambridge United.

An early strike from Elliott Cutts gave Kent a dream start but Jamie Forrester replied almost instantly for Humberside to level the scores at 1-1. A shot from George Mitchell almost gave Kent the lead after 20 minutes but his effort crashed back off the crossbar and it was Humberside who edged in front 10 minutes later with a glancing header from Mattie Start. A pulsating first half closed on level terms as Kane Butler curled a free-kick over the wall and past the outstretched arms of Jordan Douglas in the Humberside goal.

Cutts glanced home a header in the second half for his second of the game and it gave Kent a 3-2 lead that they held on until the later stages when Keane Parsons lobbed an equaliser with 10 minutes to go. With extra-time looming, Humberside clinched a late winner with Martin Jones slotting home past Jamie Weller in the Kent goal to claim the Boys Under 18 Inter County crown for the northern team in 2014/15.

Wednesday 11th March 2015 will always be a historic day for ThreeFiveThree Photography and we are proud to be working with the ESFA to capture these precious moments for people to look back on – there have been plenty of memorable moments along the way so far and we will bring some more throwback action as we build up to next season’s competitions!
