ESFA Super League-Knockout Stage Draws.

The ESFA are preparing to announce the knockout stage draw for the both the Mens and Women’s ESFA Super League competition.

ESFA UNDER 18 SUPER LEAGUE

This exciting new format of competition is designed for those schools, colleges and private providers which offer a football academy or development programme at the sixth form level.  It is perfect for those establishments which deliver regular football training sessions, strength & conditioning and possibly analysis sessions for its students – both female and male.  The competition is 11v11 football and all matches are played outdoor using age appropriate pitch and goal sizes in accord with FA rules.

FORMAT AND OVERVIEW

Group Phase: In the Men’s category of competition, the 120 teams that entered the competition back in September were initially drawn into one of 16 leagues.  In the Women’s category, the 38 teams which entered the competition were drawn into one of 8 leagues.  In the group phase, each team played each other once, with a win gaining 3 points, a draw gaining 1 point and a defeat gaining 0 points.  The highest ranked team in each league has been determined using the following:

  1. Points
  2. Goal Difference
  3. Goals Scored
  4. Head to head result

The winners and runners-up of the group phase has qualified to compete in the national knockout phase of the last 32 teams (Men’s) and the last 16 teams (Women’s).  The final league tables can be viewed here.

Knockout Phase: The two qualifying teams from each group have progress to the knockout phase.  The draw has been seeded so that the winners of each group will play a team which finished as runners-up in another group.  At this point, matches will take place on the cup-tie principle, using extra time and penalties if necessary to determine which team progresses to the next round.  There will be no replays.
