Jack Tarr makes New Year’s Honours list 2019

Former Sports teacher and headmaster turned Vice Chairman of the ESFA will receive a BEM …

Jack Tarr, a former English Schools FA council member will be honoured with a BEM for services to sport and the community in Bassetlaw.  

The 79-year-old has been active in his support for sports such , as football, cricket and table tennis across primary schools in Bassetlaw.

“It was surprising to hear. I’ve had lots of help from parents in schools and colleagues and my wife to help kids take up sport.

“I just wanted to help kids get an enjoyment out of playing sport. “

Jack played a big role in the formation of girls’ football competitions in Bassetlaw. During his leadership of Bassetlaw Schools’ Football Association, girls were allowed to play in mixed teams at a junior level for the first time.  

On top of the meaningful work he does for the ESFA he also remains president of the Nottinghamshire Schools Cricket Association.
