Schools’ Football Week 2021 – Save the date

The English Schools’ Football Association are delighted to announce the return of Schools’ Football Week, from 24 – 30 May 2021.

Schools’ Football Week is an ESFA initiative designed not only to highlight the huge scale of Schools’ Football in England, but also as an opportunity for schools, teams and clubs from across the country to embrace schools’ football and the wellbeing benefits it provides to pupils and players. With the anticipated lifting of restrictions on school and youth sport, the ESFA is looking forward to the 21/22 season and is keen, in the meantime, to draw attention to the wonderful world of Schools’ Football that, despite challenges, has been ever present throughout the last 12 months. The main focus for Schools’ Football Week 2021 is to provide an opportunity for children to get outside, have fun and enjoy being able to play sport with their school friends, competitively or otherwise.

We will be planning some different activities to take place throughout Schools’ Football Week and will keep you fully updated on these over the next few weeks. We will be officially launching Schools’ Football Week on Monday 19 April when we will be able to share with you all of our plans. We will be asking you to register activity taking place within your school so we can celebrate the participation numbers from across England.

In the meantime”¦

We are planning to host a specific day of activity on Wednesday 26 May, which will be known as Schools’ Football Week – Game On! On this day, we will be inviting all schools and colleges to host inter-house or intra-school tournaments – creating the biggest football match in the world! More details will be released, but in the meantime, please pop the date in your diary and think about how many matches your school could host on the 26th May.

FA Women and Girls’ Awards 2020 – Nominations are open

FA Women and Girls’ Football Awards 2020 now includes a category for education establishments

The ESFA are eager to make their member schools and associations aware of the new category included in the Women & Girls’ awards that provides a wonderful opportunity for educational establishments to be nominated. The FA are looking to recognise an institution that demonstrates that they have provided girls and/or young women to either learn through football, participate in football, compete and/or lead in football.

There will be a winner of the “School, College or University of the year in Female Football” award, with the ceremony taking place at the Women’s FA Cup Final at Wembley Stadium on 9 May 2020 – and we want to encourage as many nominations for this category as possible. You can find out some more information on the awards, including nomination criteria here.

The ESFA has a wonderful network of schools and colleges that provide and promote girls’ football to pupils and it would be fantastic to celebrate our schools being shortlisted or being presented with this award!

Nominations close midday on Thursday 19 March

Good luck!
