PlayStation Schools’ Cup – National Final Roundup 2023

The 10th year of ESFA PlayStation Schools’ Cup culminated with 20 National Finals at West Bromwich Albion FC, crowning 20 National Champions across the four day event

The biggest schools’ football tournament in the UK reached its conclusion for the 10th season, with 20 National Finals kicking off from 22nd-25th May. The competitions, which begun back in September, had over 5,400 teams enter and over 90,000 pupils taking part. The National Finals saw 40 teams travel to West Bromwich Albion FC with the aim of being crowned champions of England in their respective competitions. The PlayStation Schools’ Cup covers 20 competitions, providing Schools’ Cup, Small Schools’ Cup, Elite Cup, B Team Cup and Girls’ Cup competitions at the five U12 – U15 age groups.

This season’s Finals proved to be a week of fun and competition, with full, live coverage of all 20 matches, an in-house MC to entertain the crowds and special guest appearances from professional players, gamers, content creators and freestyle footballers adding to the atmosphere across the four days. England Lioness, Ella Toone, Freestyler Jack Downer and FIFA players Tom Leese and Alia Harvey all headed over to The Hawthorns to support the event and award some lucky players with their medals and trophies.

This year also saw the introduction of the PlayStation Zone, allowing spectators to enjoy a variety of PlayStation games in between matches. Alongside this, on Wednesday 24th May, the PlayStation Schools’ Cup FIFA Championship Finals returned with 32 girls and 32 boys battling it out to be crowned FIFA 23 National champions. These players qualified by winning a knockout tournament held by their respective schools earlier on in the year; and travelled to the Hawthorns for a chance to be crowned National Champions.
