The Cornwall Schools’ FA hosted their annual primary festival last week (24th-28th May) with primary schools from across the county getting involved. The festival was hosted at Archbishop Benson School in Truro and supported by the ESFA Resumption of Football Grant.
Monday saw the first events of the festival kick off with the “Centenary Shield” and the “Miller Shield”. Trythall primary school came out winners of the “Centenary Shield” competition whilst Mount Hawke primary school claimed the “Miller Shield” title.
Torrential rain washed out all of Tuesday’s fixtures as even the venues 3G surface was deemed unplayable. These fixtures were moved to Wednesday however and the competiton then fell in line with the ESFA’s Schools’ Football Week- Game On initiative, with the participating Cornwall primary schools contributing to the ‘World’s Biggest Football Match’! The day kicked off with the “T-Broad Shield”- a small schools’ competition hosted at Mounts Bay Academy where Nancledra Primary School came away with the title. The “Diamond Shield” was up next, where Parc Eglos Primary School were victorious followed by the “Girls’ Shield”, which was won by Wadebridge Primary. The final competition was the “Rosewarne Shield”, an open competition between all the participating teams. Eglos Primary School came away with their second title of the festival.
Thursday and Friday rounded off the festival with two new competitions, the “NHS Europa League” and “Duke of Edinburgh Champions League”. This involved the winners of previous competitions fighting for for these new titles. Nancledra Primary won the “Europa League” with Parc Eglos completing the treble, by winning the “Duke of Edinburgh Champions League”.
Overall it is great to see football back with as many children as possible playing football during Schools’ Football Week. A big thank you to all involved in organising the event and the schools involved for making the event so special.
